Hayes DC BCM Exercise 2026: Automation at Scale, Delivered Successfully

We are delighted to share the successful completion of the Hayes DC BCM Exercise 2026, with no major database issues reported throughout the event.

This exercise marked an important milestone for the database teams, as BCM automation was used at this scale for the first time across Hayes. The activity covered 127 databases across Oracle, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase.

Of the overall scope:

  • 95 databases were managed through automation
  • 27 databases were handled manually
  • 3 were shared databases
  • 2 were descoped

The automation delivered strong results:

  • Oracle: 100% success for switchover and 93% for switchback
  • PostgreSQL: 100% success for both switchover and switchback
  • Microsoft SQL Server: 100% success for switchover, with impacted switchbacks completed manually following jump-host connectivity issues
  • Sybase: 89% success for both switchover and switchback

Behind these results was extensive planning, coordination with BCM management and application teams, and the tracking of more than 100 BCM activities. The teams worked through operational dependencies and initial concerns to ensure the exercise was completed smoothly.

The successful execution across both Urdorf and Hayes represents a significant step forward in expanding our automation capability beyond APAC and strengthening operational resilience.

A special thank you to Taranjit, Nidhun, Vijay, the SNG team, all database coordinators, application teams and everyone who supported the activity from the initial planning discussions through to completion.

And, of course, every major milestone deserves a celebration. The team came together to mark the achievement with cake—a fitting conclusion to months of preparation, collaboration and successful execution. 🎂
